NDG5: Enhancing Electric Vehicle Safety Leave a comment

The NDG5, a leading testing machine, measures the puncture resistance of separator films in packaging and lithium-ion batteries using a precise Φ1 needle.

This tester has become an indispensable metric for ensuring product safety and quality across multiple industries, notably within the electric vehicle sector.

Developed over a decade, the NDG5 can be traced back to its predecessor, the “KES-G5 compression tester.” The KES-G5 was initially designed to measure material “hardness,” taking inspiration from the tactile sensation of “finger pressing.” Its versatility extends to assessing compression characteristics in diverse industries such as automotive, textiles, non-wovens, cosmetics, and electronics (including car seats, diapers, towels, makeup puffs, foam/cream, switches, etc.).

In the midst of the electric vehicle revolution, inquiries arose among our clientele: “Can we accurately measure the strength of separator films crucial for lithium batteries?” This urging us to seek viable solutions.

Our development team embraced this challenge by reconfigure the G5, transforming its compression tool into a precision needle. This modification led to the creation of a testing apparatus capable of piercing through thin films, particularly separator films, to precisely assess their strength.

This initial development was followed by continuous refinement, shaped by invaluable feedback from various companies. Today, the NDG5 stands as the culmination of this journey, featuring a needle developed in collaboration with a leading Japanese firm at the forefront of global separator manufacturing.

Presently, it’s installed by the top three global separator manufacturing companies, significantly enhancing the quality control of electric vehicles on a global scale.
