Why Nitto Kinzoku Kogyo’s Stainless Steel Containers are Chosen by the Pharmaceutical Industry

High-quality materials and surface treatments allow us to produce more rust-resistant containers

High grade specifications are available, such as combining SUS316L, a stainless steel with superior corrosion resistance, with high-quality electrolytic polishing.
We can also accommodate products that require high quality, such as those used in liquid preparation equipment for injectable drugs.

Containers can be fabricated to prevent dirt buildup and reduce cleaning time.

We propose an easy-to-clean structure that eliminates gaps where cleaning fluids and dirt can accumulate.

For the past four years, the pharmaceutical industry has been the largest adopter of our custom-made products.

Quality in various industries such as food, chemical, cosmetics, semiconductor, etc.

Our products are used not only in the pharmaceutical industry, but also in various other industries such as food, chemical, cosmetics, and semiconductors.
Our strength is not that we always provide the highest grade, but that we can offer the best quality according to the place of use.

Highly agitated

Stainless steel containers and stirrers can be sold as a set.

Nitto Kinzoku Kogyo sells and partially manufactures not only stainless steel containers but also agitators.

Stainless steel containers used in processes such as mixing and temperature control (heating and cooling) of contents are almost always used together with agitators.
However, there are not many manufacturers who can prepare stainless steel containers and agitators together.

We have a variety of containers for agitators in various shapes.
By manufacturing containers based on the installation method, dimensions, and shape of the agitator, we can improve productivity, such as ease of use and agitation efficiency when combining the two.

This is possible only because we manufacture both agitators and containers for agitation.

Extensive product lineup

Lineup of agitators, valves, and other peripheral equipment for use with containers

There is no need to purchase separate items to be used with stainless steel containers.
We also handle peripheral equipment such as agitators, valves, and accessories, so please consult with us first.
Since we also manufacture our own agitators, we can flexibly accommodate agitation tests prior to purchase.

Developing one-of-a-kind products that can solve small complaints

Production Process “How Stainless Steel Containers are Made

Nitto Kinzoku Kogyo’s stainless steel containers are made by welding plates instead of press forming.
Here we introduce how stainless steel containers are made and how stainless steel containers are made.

Nitto Kinzoku Kogyo is a manufacturer that handles the entire process of designing and manufacturing stainless steel containers in-house.
Especially after welding, NITTO METAL KOGYO uses its original technology for processing to enhance the value of its products.

Accept materials

The process of accepting purchased materials.

We check to make sure that the type of material ordered has been received without error and that there are no scratches.
Here, we receive stainless steel slabs, which are the source of products, as well as all the parts that are to be attached to the products.
Since materials of various sizes and types are received, each product is assigned a control number and managed once it arrives.

High quality stainless steel containers made in Saitama and Ibaraki

When it comes to stainless steel products made in Japan, those made in Tsubame-Sanjo in Niigata Prefecture are well known.
Therefore, some people may say, “We say we make our own stainless steel containers, but we ask the Niigata factory to make most of them.” However, Nitto Kinzoku Kogyo is a stainless steel container manufacturer that produces its products at two factories, the Tsukuba Plant in Ibaraki Prefecture and the Yashio Plant in Saitama Prefecture, and delivers them throughout the country. (except for some products).

The Tsukuba Plant is the production base for mainly stock items such as simple diminutive containers with no parts or fittings.
The Yashio Plant, which began operations in 1965, is now a production center for custom-made products.
For more than half a century, craftsmen have been making products with complex shapes one by one by hand.

Cut ingredients

This is a process called “shearing,” in which materials are cut to a predetermined size.

Stainless steel flat sheets, which are the basis of stainless steel containers, are either purchased in advance in a specified size or cut (sheared) in-house to the required size.
Since the thickness, material, and size of the plates differ for each product, we check for any errors in the work instructions and cut them to the required size using a dedicated machine. The work is done carefully to ensure that there are no errors in the dimensions and that the surface is not scratched.

Steel Grades Mainly Used
SUS304, SUS316L BA material, 2B material

Main sizes of stainless steel sheet materials
Meter board…1000mm x 2000mm board.
Shihachi board…1219mm x 2438mm board. “Shihachi” because it is 4 shaku x 8 shaku in size.
Gotou board…1524mm x 3048mm board. 5′ x 10′ size, so “Gotou”.
Thickness of the flat plate used
t0.7mm~t2.0mm
Specification of thickness of stainless steel plate
For example, when the thickness of a plate of t1.0mm (plate thickness is 1.0mm) is measured, it is not exactly 1.0mm. This is because the tolerance (±) is determined by the JIS standard, so even if the thickness is thinner than 1.0 mm, the plate thickness is said to be 1.0 mm, as long as it is within the specified range. Therefore, if the stainless steel plate was made at different times, the plate thickness will also differ slightly.

roll up ingredients

This is a process called “rolling,” in which a board of material that will be used for the body of the container is rolled.

To make the cylinder that will become the body of the container, we first use a special machine to roll a flat plate into a round shape.
If the plates cannot be rounded properly here, the subsequent processes will be affected, so the conditions are changed according to the thickness and diameter of the plates.

do as one pleases

Rolled plates are welded together to form the cylinder that serves as the body of the container.

The cylinder is made by welding the edges and ends of the plates that were rounded in the previous process.
When welding, there are manuals for the strength and speed of the electric current. Since the finished product differs depending on subtle differences in materials and plate thicknesses, room temperature, and other factors, adjustments are made each time the product is made. Especially in the case of products with a large quantity, we weld under the same conditions to achieve the same finish.
After welding, we apply our original treatment to improve the finish.

Wrap one end of the cylinder

This is the process of “curling” one end of the cylindrical body part.

Using a special machine, one edge of the cylinder is rolled. The other end is the part that will be used to attach the bottom in the next process.
We work carefully to avoid unevenness and scratches on the rolled edges.

We call the edge-wrapped part made in this process “curling.
The curl has the purpose of reinforcing the edge and preventing injury by making it smooth to the touch, and all of our standard specification storage and discharge containers have this curl.

bottom out

The body and bottom of the container are welded together to form the container.

The body and bottom parts of the cylinder are welded together by a special machine, taking care not to create gaps or holes.
For custom-made products, the bottom is often welded by hand because the shape of the bottom differs from one product to another.
After welding, our original treatment is applied to the finished product.

If there are parts to be welded onto the stainless steel container, such as fittings, they are welded by hand during this process.
Depending on the specifications of a custom-made product, it is not unusual for 10 parts to be attached to one container. Each part is welded by hand while checking the drawings to ensure that the type of part, its position, and the order in which the parts are attached are correct.

In the welding process, not only men but also women are active.

Welding work is often thought of as a male job, but recently, as the term “welding girls” suggests, an increasing number of companies are welding by women.
At our company, too, young and experienced welders of all genders work together to produce high-quality stainless steel containers.
In order to deliver better products, we focus on improving work efficiency by implementing 4S in the work area, making improvements, manufacturing jigs, and reviewing work procedures.

Grinding.

This is the process of smoothing and shining the surface.

Buffing is the process of polishing the surface of stainless steel containers using a “buffing” cloth coated with an abrasive.
The buffing process removes burrs and scratches from the surface during processing and improves the smoothness of the surface.
The equipment and tools are changed according to the product to ensure clean polishing.

Non-polishing efforts as much as possible

Since we carefully select high quality stainless steel materials, which are the source of our products, we devise ways to perform only the minimum necessary buff polishing, such as only on welded parts.

Cleaning

This is the process of cleaning for the purpose of removing general dirt

The products are cleaned with a washing machine or by hand to remove oil, abrasives, and other contaminants from the products.
The finished products are cleaned while checking for defects.

Various cleaning methods are available for different purposes

If contamination or other problems are a concern, cleaning by high-precision electropolishing is recommended.

Assembly and inspection.

The process of assembling products and checking for product pass/fail.

For products that require assembly, we install the parts and inspect them as necessary.
Especially for products that have been ordered many times before, we make sure to inspect the finished product carefully to ensure that it is finished in the same way as before.
If you have any requests for inspection details or inspection documents, please contact us for a quote.

Product Inspection Methods

We inspect stainless steel containers using calibrated inspection equipment.

■ Appearance Inspection
We visually check stainless steel products for scratches, stains, and processing defects.
We also check during various post-manufacturing inspections, cleaning, and packaging.

■ Standard dimension measurement

Measuring tools such as calipers, height gauges, and pie scales are used to measure the inside diameter, outside diameter, and height of products.
Calipers: Tools for accurately measuring diameter and depth.
Height gauge…Tool to accurately measure height.
Pie scale…Tool to measure circumference (outside diameter). (Pie meter/Pie scale)

■ Color Check (Penetrant Testing)

The inspection liquid is applied to the inspected area (mainly welds) to check for microscopic holes and scratches.
This inspection is performed on containers that cannot be inspected for pressure resistance or airtightness.

■ Pressure resistance inspection (water pressure test)

We check whether a pressurized container can withstand a specified pressure.
For pressurized inspections, water pressure is used, and for depressurized inspections, air pressure is used.

■ airtight test

This inspection is performed to confirm that airtightness is sufficiently maintained when a specified pressure is applied to a pressurized container.
Air (pneumatic) inspections are performed.

■ Leak testing (helium leak test)

Leak detectors are used to inspect for leaks at seals and welds.
Leak detectors can detect minute leaks.

inspection documents

After completion of various inspections, we prepare inspection reports.
The inspection includes visual and dimensional inspections, but we also prepare inspection items and documents as specified by the user.

Customer Testimonials

Here is what the customer had to say about the container during the meeting visit

“We use a customized tank with a reduced height for filtration from the cauldrons used in the production of flavoring agents.
The height of the tank is very useful for us, as we can’t tilt the cauldron enough with a regular receiving tank.”

From Mr. K, Manufacturing Department, Food Flavorings Manufacturer

“When we show Nitto’s hoppers to other contractors, they are first surprised at how clean they are.
In several decades, there have never been any complaints of scratches or rust, and the only complaints that have been made have been about fighting over the wrong hopper.”

From Mr. NS, Manager, Facilities Management Section, Production Department, Pharmaceutical Manufacturer

“On my first visit, my first words were, “Nitto Kinzoku is famous for its stainless steel containers.” ”

From Mr. SI, Manager, Procurement Section, Production Equipment Manufacturer

I have purchased various types of sanitary beakers (BK-SMA) by special order. Compared to ordinary beakers, Nitto’s beakers are easy to use because they do not drip liquid.
Electropolished products made by other companies (especially those from overseas) are difficult to clean and sterilize before use because the buffing powder has not been completely removed, but Nitto’s electropolished products can be used almost without cleaning.

From Mr. NK, Plant Formulation Section, Pharmaceutical Manufacturer

The sanitary beaker (BK-SMA) has a good drainage of the spout.
As for the handle, it is painful because it is thin. When I use it, I hold it with my hand in the space between the container and the handle, instead of holding it by the handle. When I hold it by the handle, it is heavy and I tremble.

From a technical research institute of a pharmaceutical manufacturer

Mr. Fujiwara, who is in charge of our company, responds quickly to quotations!
Also, there are no containers made by Nitto that are poorly made or unusable.

From Mr. NI, Director, Facilities Department, Pharmaceutical Manufacturer

All containers to be considered in the future will be made of SUS316L.
Containers made by Nitto have a high reputation, and we are certain that Nitto will be the best choice.

From Mr. NR, Manager, Manufacturing Group, Pharmaceutical Manufacturer

SUS cans are being converted to dedicated cans.
Tanks with markings already delivered are very good. The marking name is the name of the medicine.

From a pharmaceutical manufacturer Manufacturing G NM

In the past, we had trouble sterilizing containers due to the use of brass containers, but after purchasing the CTB-27, we were able to sterilize the entire container, which revolutionarily changed the process.
Bacteria have been reduced to almost zero.

From a research institute of a pharmaceutical manufacturer

The company brought a variety of samples (curl seal samples, various boards and marking boards) and gave very good explanations while looking at the actual products.
In terms of the catalog structure, we understood that the company is well versed in the pharmaceutical market.

From Mr. IS, Manager, Technical Development Department, Pharmaceutical Manufacturer

More details about Nitto Kinzoku Kogyo

Using Special Stainless Steel Materials

At Nitto Kinzoku Kogyo, our products primarily use BA materials (bright annealed) such as SUS304 and SUS316L stainless steel. BA material have a surface roughness of 0.25Ra in its natural state, providing a mirror-like luster without the need for additional polishing. For our SUS316L BA material, we order and stock our own specialized BA material, which is not generally available in the market. By using high-quality materials, we provide our customers with high-quality products.

Material-Optimized Production Method

At Nitto Kinzoku Kogyo, our stainless steel containers are fabricated using laser cutting and TIG welding, without pressing or thermal processing. This minimizes the occurrence of scratches, requiring only minimal buff polishing to achieve the final product. Our production method maximizes the potential of high-quality materials, preserving the original luster and cleanliness of our BA-grade steel. We provide industrial-grade stainless steel containers that maintain their quality and appeal not only in Japan, but throughout the world.

The polishing range is only 6.5%

In buff polishing, there are many problems such as residual oil from the polishing agent remaining on the surface after polishing, which is said to cause corrosion
when steam sterilized. Nitto Kinzoku Kogyo minimizes polishing to reduce these issues. The difference is clear in a white glove test. Our stainless steel containers minimize the customer’s cleaning cost.
