The Optical Micrometer is a non-contact, non-destructive tomographic measurement device using Michelson interferometry.

Optical micrometers are devices that irradiate light onto a sample, detect the return light from the surface, interior, and back surface, and measure the distance between each return light. Since it is a reflection measurement, it has a high degree of freedom and is non-contact. If the sample is transparent to the measurement light, the internal state and sample thickness can be easily measured.

Features

Stability

S-BSL7(OHARA) This is an example of continuous measurement of a flat plate of t=1.010mm for 5 hours. The positions of the beat signals on the top and bottom surfaces of the sample vary by ±20 μm due to the influence of room temperature.
The position of the beat signals on the top and bottom surfaces of the sample fluctuates about ±20 μm due to the influence of room temperature, but the signal spacing (sample thickness) is stable within ±1 μm.

Reproducibility

This is an example of measurement reproducibility of a flat plate of S-BSL7(OHARA) t=1.010mm and 2.000mm, measured 10 times.
(Samples were set and measured at 20-minute intervals each time.) It can be confirmed that the range is within ±1μm stably.

Example of non-contact, micro-area measurement
