Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How do I use it?

A. Turn on the switch and the blade will rotate. Push the green onion into the slot, and the cut green onion will come out from the bottom.

Q. How do I sharpen the blade?

A. Sharpen the blade by moving the supplied oiled whetstone along the shape of the blade (circular arc).

Q. What is the rated usage time?

A. Approximately 30 minutes. The motor may burn out if used for a long time. Thermal protector function is not provided.

Q. What is the processing capacity?

A. It processes about 4 kg in 3 minutes.

Q. Can it process any kind of green onion?

A. This machine is exclusively for Kanto leeks (white onion). The distance between the blade and the place where the green onion is held at the feed port is about 10 cm, so it is not good at cutting thin green onions such as all-purpose green onions.

Q. What other kinds of things can be cut?

A. Cucumbers and burdocks can be cut into round slices. Green onions can be chopped by cutting them lengthwise in a crisscross pattern before throwing them in.

Q. How can I cut diagonally?

A. The angle of the slot can be turned up, and leeks can be cut diagonally by inserting them from the top.

Q. How many leeks can fit in the slot?

A. One Kanto leek (white onion).

Q. How do I wash it?

A. Remove the blade and wipe the main body with a well wrung wet cloth. After soaking the blade in boiling water for about 10 minutes, wipe it well with a dry cloth.

After using the machine, soak the blade in boiling water before the leek mucus dries. Once dried, the mucilage will coat the blade edge, making it hard to cut. The most important point is to completely remove the mucus from the leeks in order to maintain the sharpness of the cut. (If the mucus has dried, scrape it off with a pointed object.)

Q. How do I remove the blade?

A. Insert the supplied stopper pin to secure the blade. Loosen the center wing nut and remove the blade.

Q. How do I install the blade?

A. Install the blade so that the back (flat side) of the blade is visible in the front side, and tighten firmly with the wing nut.

Q. What is the cutting size of leeks?

A. The size cannot be specified because it is fed in by hand. The blade rotates at a constant speed. Inserting too fast will produce a thick cut, and inserting too slowly will produce a thin green onion.
If the blade is inserted too slowly, watery green onions will come out because the blade is rotating at a high speed. In that case, please insert the blade a little faster.

Q. Can the green onion be cut all the way through?

A. No. Since the blade is pushed in by hand, the green part you are holding cannot be cut.

Q. Can you make thick diagonal slices for use in casseroles, etc.?

A. No, it cannot. Because the blade is rotating at high speed, it is 1 to 2 mm thick.
